Previous Consultation: What you told us

At the end of last year we asked you what you like and dislike about travelling in Wallington and which improvements you would like to see to assist you to travel to and from Wallington.
We had a great response from residents, school children and businesses in Wallington with 1105 responses received from residents, interest groups, school children and businesses.
What you told us
These responses gave us a clear indication of what people like and dislike about travelling in Wallington and the types of improvements people would like to see.
People have told us they value the convenience and the variety of services that Wallington has to offer. We were also told that levels of traffic, the environment, and cycling and walking facilities were considered negative aspects of travelling in Wallington.
Some specific areas were also indicated as key areas for improvement. These include:
  • Woodcote Road. Issues: High congestion levels, poor quality public realm, lack of cycle parking.
  • Wallington Square. Issues: Poor quality public realm.
  • Beddington Gardens junction with Woodcote Road. Issues: Poor crossing facilities and level of traffic.
  • Stafford Road junction with Woodcote Road: Poor crossing facilities.
What we heard
The responses indicated the following key areas that need to be addressed:
  • Focus on the ‘high street’ area (rail station forecourt to Stafford Road)
  • Walking and cycling improvements (in the town centre and on key routes into the town centre)
  • Parking
  • Public realm improvements
  • Traffic flows in Wallington
Process to date
Following your initial response, measures and solutions were drafted. A community workshop was held on the 20th of March where these draft measures were discussed and refined.  Proposed measures include:
  • Improvements to the High street area (including the public realm, cycle parking and traffic management improvements).
  • Improvements on key walking and cycling routes into the Town Centre.
  • Improvements to specific junctions on these key routes.
  • Measures to improve safety on routes to and from schools in the area.
We are also working closely with the owners of Wallington Square to improve this area.
As well as these improvements, it also planned that a series of promotions and events are held. These will promote travel options when accessing Wallington, and provide information on various travel and transport services.
